The main idea for Depalote came to me a really hot day in the summer in France, after having rehearsed with the National Youth Symphonic Orchestrra of the Dominican Republic for a tour we were doing in Germany, as part of the Young Euro Classic, and France. After the rehearsal, paying no attention to the heat, or the tiredness we took our instruments and started playing carnival music, afro-dominican, merengue and other rhythms and styles. Nothing serious, quite the opposite, anyone could join and play or even dance. One of the pieces that we played in the Young Euro Classic, in the Konzerthaus was Punta Cana, by Caonex Peguero and it influenced my piece a little. Depalote is not a real word, but I like to use it to describe certain types of situations, like in that hot summer day back in France.


Depalote nace un caluroso día de verano en Francia, después de haber ensayado con la Sinfónica Nacional Juvenil de la República Dominicana para un tour que hacíamos por Alemania, como parte del Young Euro Classic, y Francia. Después de ensayar, sin importar el calor o el cansancio tomamos nuestros instrumentos y nos pusimos a tocar música de carnaval, afro-dominicana, merengue y otros ritmos. Nada serio, por el contrario, cualquiera se podia unir a tocar cualquier instrumento o incluso a bailar. Una de las piezas que tocamos en El Young Euro Classic, en el Konzerthaus, fue Punta Cana de Caonex Peguero, la cual influencio un poco la creación de esta pieza. Depalote no es una palabra real, pero me gusta mucho usarla para describir ciertos tipos de situaciones, como cuando se forman esa clase de eventos desorganizados pero super divertidos como aquel caluroso día de verano.
